WWF WARZONE

Basic Facts

-The game was developed by Iguana West (a division of Acclaim located in Salt Lake City, Utah) to be marketed and distributed by Acclaim Entertainment, Inc.
-It will be available for the Nintendo 64 (stored on a 16MegaByte Cartridge), Sony PlayStation (stored on CD-ROM, obviously), and Nintendo Game Boy (a "watered down" 2D version)
-The Sony PlayStation version will be released on July 23rd
-The Nintendo 64 version will be released on August 11th
-The GameBoy version is now on store shelves across North America

Graphics

-The Nintendo 64 version runs at a 640x480 High Resolution screen mode (ala NFL QBC '98, NHL Breakaway '98, and All-Star Baseball '99)
-Superstars were video-grabbed for face and upper body textures and put onto soft-skinned (seamless) 3D models
-Extra time was spent on making all the models "glitch-free" (polygon-flicker and such were eliminated)
-All wrestlers are size-proportioned by height
-Everyone has their own stance (instead of the unrealistic one seen in earlier versions of the game)
-Everyone has two costumes for you to choose from
-Real walking animations (no "sliding around" like Asmik's 3D wrestling games)
-Wrestler's head moves according to his opponent's position (ala. Tekken)
-The only ring design and arena decoration/layout in the game is the one for the Raw is War monday night TV show (it includes the entrance ramp and TitanTron); the ring ropes actually bend when wrestlers bounce off of them, unlike WCW Nitro, and they even shake when wrestlers take a bump
-Wrestlers are shown walking down the ramp to the ring in all versions of the game (tag teams come out together)

Sound

-There's a lot of detail in the sound department for both versions; all music is produced by Titan, including the real wrestler themes
-Vince McMahon and Jim Ross recorded 90 minutes of commentary for the game, they refer to custom wrestlers by player number, most of it is included in the N64 version as well, but there's more detail in the PSX's play-by-play.
-PSX version stores the music in Redbook CD Audio, N64 version uses MIDI renditions of the music (this isn't a measurement of quality, Killer Instinct Gold is an example of high quality N64 MIDI composition, however, some of the themes which include a lot of vocals will be instrumental versions)
-The crowd either boo's or cheers for a wrestler depending on whether he is a "Fan Favorite" (face/"good guy") or "Rule Breaker" (heel/"bad guy")
-People in the audience yell random comments at the wrestlers occasionally
-Each wrestler has 5 different taunt phrases are used at random, when you're taunting an opponent or "show-boating" (doing so even helps you regain strength)

Game Modes

-WWF Challenge (1 Player) - Fight through a single elimination pyramid to work your way up to gaining the Intercontinental and WWF World titles. Along the way, different wrestlers will come back to challenge you to a gimmick match against him, and you must accept it before continuing. Once you have gained a title, you can defend it against opponents, your progress in this mode can also be saved.
-Singles Match (Up to 2 Players) - Standard 1-on-1 wrestling match. Win by pinfall, submission, countout, or disqualification. Normal World Wrestling Federation rules apply.
-Tag Team Match (Up to 2 Players; cooperative or teamed with CPU partner) - Standard 2-on-2 Tag Team matchup. Two teams of two members each are paired up against eachother, one team member in the ring at a time. Win by pinfall, submission, countout, or disqualification on any one member of the opposing team. Normal World Wrestling Federation rules apply.
-Tornado Match (Up to 2 Players; 1P vs CPU, cooperative or teamed with CPU partner) - 2-on-2 matchup in which two teams of two members each are paired up against eachother, with all participants allowed in the ring at the same time. Win by pinfall, submission, countout, or disqualification on any one member of the opposing team. Normal World Wrestling Federation rules apply.
-War Mode (Up to 4 Players) - 3 or 4-man, every man for himself battle. All participants are allowed in the ring at once. Eliminate by pinfall, submission, countout, or disqualification. The last participant remaining is the winner. Normal World Wrestling Federation rules apply.
-Steel Cage Match (Up to 4 players) - With up to 4 participants, the first wrestler to climb out of the 16-foot high steel cage wins. You can't climb out until your opponent is severely damaged. The cage itself can even be used as a weapon. You can do moves off the top of the cage, as well as knock an opponent back inside when he's trying to climb out to inflict severe damage. Using the cage can cause bleeding. No holds barred.
-Weapons Mode (Up to 4 Players) - Weapons are laid out around the ring area for all participants to use in the match. They can be brought into the ring and can cause bleeding. There are no disqualifications or countouts. ECW Rules.
-Training Mode (1 Player) - Learn and practice your moves or touch up on your mat skills on a dummy in the training room. You can command the dummy to perform certain actions for you to practice moves that are used in particular situations, or even get it to try specific moves on you for you to practice your countering skills.
-Create-A-Wrestler - Simular to the Fire Pro games' EDIT Mode - you can choose body part shapes (includes a female shape once you have won the Challenge mode with a certain wrestler), sizes, pieces of clothing, skin tones (white, African American, three Asian ones, technicolor), skin types (plain, hairy, or extremely hairy like Los Boricuas' Miguel Perez), and colors of the clothing. Assign attributes to the wrestler (Strength, Toughness, Speed, Recovery, Charisma). Choose one of 23 move sets (16 pre-programmed wrestlers' sets and 7 custom sets) and the theme music for your wrestler (includes the ones for the wrestlers in the game as well as 6 generic songs for custom wrestlers). The clothes worn by the wrestlers already in the game, plus Degeneration X, Stone Cold, WWF Attitude, and Mankind T-Shirts, are all available for use on your custom wrestlers. 30 wrestlers can be saved per memory card in the PSX version, and 30 can also be saved per controller memory pak in the N64 version.
-Biography Mode - View the wrestlers' profile and attributes.
-Options Mode - Set the game's options, self-explainatory.
-Royal Rumble (N64 Only; it's actually a modified Royal Rumble match since the N64 can't possibly allow more than four of these detailed 3D models on-screen at once) - With a total of 16 participants, four wrestlers are in the ring at once to battle it out, and a new one enters whenever one has been eliminated by being thrown over the top rope and onto the arena floor. The last man remaining in the ring after all 16 participants have entered is the winner of the Royal Rumble. No holds barred.
-Gauntlet (1 Player) - Simular to "Raw Endurance" in WWF Raw on SuperNES/Genesis/32X. Survive in a series of matches against six different wrestlers (one at a time) without recovering any strength.

Game Play

-The power bars drain slowly but also increase, you can pin your opponent when he is down to red, get your opponent into a "stun" with your finisher.
-In order to prevent "playing cheap", if you repeat a single move, the crowd will begin to boo you and your attacks will become less and less effective on your opponent. But if you use a variety of moves, the crowd will cheer you, and your moves become more effective.
-There is a new submission hold system, you must work to keep your opponent in the hold by button-mashing, while your opponent must do the same to try to get out of it
-Weapons in the game include: 2x4, ring bell, video camera, TV monitor, and chair. They all inflict extra damage. There is also a table for you to throw or slam opponents onto to inflict some extra damage (different moves, not just a single type of slam or throw, can be done onto the table, and the table splits in half down the middle)
-Every wrestler has 35 moves each, including a Trademark Finisher
-There is a total of over 500 different moves motion-captured with PJ Walker (currently Justin Credible in ECW) and Tom Pritchard (formerly of the Heavenly Bodies, and also Zipp of the Bodydonnas) in the game.
-The game includes some relatively "rare" moves, as the Fire Pro games did (ones you don't always see in North America).
-There will be moves that are done to the outside, such as planchas and suicide dives; however, there will not be any "setup moves" such as Bret's elbow from the middle rope, The Rock's flashing elbow drop, or Austin's kick to the stomach, although these moves are in the game.
-The controller functions are: Punch, Kick, Grapple, Block, Side Step In, and Side Step Out. Most moves are done like fighting games (ie. Back, Forward, Punch.) but are done in different situations (in a grapple, standing over fallen opponent, etc. depending on how the move is physically done). Some moves are done with single buttons (ie. Kick while standing behind your opponent).
-You can climb the corner from the outside (on the apron) as well as the inside (a lot of other wrestling games don't allow you to climb up from the outside).
-Matches have time limits (this can likely be set to infinite in the options menu like most of the other wrestling games)
-There is a 10 count for double teaming (like WWF Raw, the old SuperNES, Genesis, and Sega 32X game) this may change before the final version of the game since they're still deciding on what would be the best amount of time to allow
-The Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being tweaked so that it will be challenging even for experienced players, in all the game modes
-There will NOT be real injuries and damages made to bodyparts as there were in the latest Fire Pro games, working on a bodypart to wear down an opponent is useless in War Zone
-Iguana's goals with War Zone were the following: 1. Keep the control simple so people can do more of the cool looking moves more easily. 2. Create skill mechanisms so a better player wins most of the time. Allow players to figure out how to get better. 3. Try to make it seem like real wrestling and keep the game play fun and exciting.

Development

-Nichimen Graphics' N-World 3.1 software package is being used, which includes tools for polygonal modeling, 3D paint, skeletal animation, motion editing, and much more. Projects done with the package can be viewed interactively on the destined platforms (N64 and PSX in this case) with the Game Express tools also included.

-PSX version has Full-Motion Video sequences (movies) of wrestlers challenging someone to a grudge match in Challenge mode, each wrestler has 5 different ones
-Shawn Michaels and Triple H no longer have their old poses at all, the crotch-chop has replaced them completely; Austin doesn't have his middle-fingers taunt since the MotionCapture only has one sensor for the hand as a whole so a single finger gesture can't be done
-There is blood in the game, wrestlers juice in the cage match and the use of weapons

Rumor Killers

-There will NOT be a 17th normal character
-The ladder match was REMOVED
-There are no managers in the game
